A Wild Weekend in Sports

What a fantastic weekend for both college and professional football.  Even the casual fan from what I heard had to enjoy both Saturday and Sunday’s games.

From LSU getting a second chance against Tennessee, the Oregon vs Stanford Shoot Out, to the Ravens miracle ending vs the Steelers, or the Vick vs McNabb showdown, or was it Kolb vs McNabb???

Kudos to Les Miles on saving his job for at least one more week.  I mean come on, how does a guy have so much talent barely escape with a win versus Tennessee?  If it weren’t for a crucial substitution mix up, Les could be on the serious hot seat.  The guys in Tennessee went from an extreme high to the ultimate low within seconds.  In what they thought was a win,  the center snapped the ball past the quarterback with time expiring.  Only to see a flag get thrown because during the substitution of players Tennessee  was caught with 13 players on the field.  The following play saw LSU score and the Tigers escape with a narrow victory.

LSU has to be the worst team ranked in the Top 10.  They may be the SEC’s version of Notre Dame.  Full of  5 Star Blue Chip talent, except they play like their 2 stars.

Both the Steelers vs Ravens and Eagles vs Redskins were both great games.  Joe Flacco drove down the field with time winding down and finding TJ Houz Your Mama in the end zone for a fantastic finish beating a divisional rival.

The game everyone wanted to see, Vick vs McNabb only lasted 5-10 minutes after Ron Mexico was helped off the field with a serious rib injury after a 20 yard scramble.  McNabb was cheered by Philly fans, and its he who laughs last, after guiding the Redskins to victory.

Baseball ended its regular season with some of the usual suspects moving into the Post Season.  The Giants Freddy Sanchez put the Padres to bed with a 7 inning shut out, while the Braves clinched after they beat the Phillies to close out the Season.

The most shocking of all the teams who moved on, were the Cincinnati Reds.  They have to be the Willie Mays Hayes of baseball this season.  They have a complete roster of “WHO is that GUY”.  The best part is, they will likely beat the Phillies in the opening round and we still won’t know who they are.

Lastly we closed out the weekend of sports this morning with the Ryder Cup.  The United States lost to the Europeans after a valiant comeback was fought off by Graeme McDowell.  21 year old American Rickie Fowler fought back for the US birding his final four shots only to come up one shot short.  Fowler, outside of Tiger was the most criticized selection by Captain Corey Pavin.  But what most don’t realize about the young kid from Murrieta, Ca,  in a Match play format Rickie has shown great skills and attributes with his game.  Today proved that Corey made the correct choice by showcasing the future star of America.
